Belgian Congo Fetish
Victor Ruffy collection 1960
Protective figures, fetishes appeal to the benevolence of ancestors and deities.
Present in European collections since the end of the Middle Ages, African art will fascinate many Western artists. Guillaume Apollinaire considers it to be no less precious than the sculptures of Antiquity, Gauguin buys it and Matisse offers it to Picasso.
AKAA (Also Known As Africa) is a fair dedicated to its contemporary art that allows us to admire its diversity and dynamism today, as well as the intensity of the dialogue between Africa and the rest of the world. The next edition will be held in Paris from November 11 to 14, 2021.
