Références
Leonor Fini was born in Buenos Aires in 1907, and died in
Paris in 1996. She was a self-taught artist, never receiving
any formal training. In 1937 she met André Breton in Paris, as
well as other members of the Surrealist movement. Yet, despite
her close friendship with such artists as George Bataille,
Victor Brauner and Max Ernst, she never formally joined the
Surrealist group. Her first monographic exhibition was held in
New York in 1939.
Fini is recognised as an important artist and personality of
the 20th century. Her work explores conventional borders between
the masculine and the feminine, myth and reality, and
the conscious and the subconscious.
